Target Audience

This course is ideal for you if you are responsible for supporting customers to live independently and / or move on from a care or support service to more independent living.



This course aims to provide you with tools and techniques to equip individuals with the abilities and confidence to live independently in their own homes and/ or to move on to more independent living.


Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course you will have an understanding of the challenges that individuals' face when living independently, and/or moving on to more independent living including anxiety - stress - resistance - fear - resources - competence.  You will know the different tools and techniques that help manage resistance and support independence, and know how to support individuals to build their confidence to live independently and/or move on.  You will also know the practicalities of move-on, the resources an individual requires in order to live independently and/or to move to more independent accommodation and how and where to access these.


Course Contents

  • Identifying challenges individuals may face when living independently and moving on to more independent living
  • Implementing strategies to address resistance and help reduce dependency
  • Factors that drive change and approaches, tools and techniques that support the process
  • How to build confidence and capacity to live independently and / or to move on
  • Practicalities when living independently, and in the move on process, including finances and resources
  • Identifying others who can support the process of living independently and / or moving on
