Target Audience

All staff working within Health and Social Care setting



This half day course aims to ensure you can provide personal care to individuals in a dignified and safe way.


Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course you will know your role and responsibilities when providing support with personal care.  You wil be able to provide support to individuals with personal care safely, in a way that maximises comfort and dignity. You will also know the risks to their health and will be able to follow care plan and risk assessments while working in line with legal and organisational requirements.

This half day course covers requirements set in the National occupational standards unit HSC 2015; Support individuals to meet personal care needs.  You may use your learning from attending this course towards the Health and Social Care Diploma.


Course Contents

  • The workers own role and responsibilities when supporting with personal care
  • Supporting individuals with their washing, showering, washing their hair, keeping their nails clean and washing their hands after using the toilet
  • Addressing personal care with individuals in a sensitive manner
  • Supporting the preferences and needs of individuals while maintaining their independence and maintain their dignity
  • Risks to workers own health in supporting personal care routines
  • Following care plans and risk assessments
  • Observing and recording the support in line with organisational policies and procedures
