Target Audience

This course is suitable for you if you work directly with customers,  particularly if you are supporting a/or customer/s to make changes in their lives.

In order to ensure you have a basic understanding of the tools and techniques needed to successfully complete this course, we recommend you complete the 'Engaging and Motviating' course prior to attending.




Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course you will know how to apply basic motivational interviewing techniques to support individuals towards making change in their lives.  You will know, and explore the tools and techniques to use in the diffeent stages of the cycle of change and will be able to confidently implement basic motivational interviewing skills to support sustainable change in the individuals with whom you are working.

  • Exploration and practice of the principles and techniques of motivational intereviewing
  • The cycle of change and how this works in practice
  • Tools and techniques to use with clients during the different phases of change, including the decisional balance tool
  • The use Socatic questioning and evoking change talk
  • Reflective listening and using questioning techniques to support change
  • Improving confidence to change
