This course is ideal for all staff working within care and support services.

Aims

This course aims to ensure you have the confidence and tools to implement a proactive and least restrictive approach to managing challenging behaviour in the workplace.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course you wil be able to plan and implement a proactive approach to managing challenging behaviour at work.  You will be able to decrease incidents of abuse and learn how best to address challenging behaviour before, during and after it occurs.  You will also know how to improve your reactions in a crisis situation.

Course Contents

  • Definitions of challenging behaviour
  • Types of abuse including violation of human rights, mistreatment and inappropriate restraint or restrictions
  • Understanding the purpose of behaviour
  • The functional analysis of behaviour, including antecedents and consequences of behaviour, slow and fast triggers
  • Proactive, active and reactive interventions
  • The role of reinforcement in maintaining behaviour and the time intensity model
  • The importance of social validity in the positive behavioural support model
  • Promoting a positive, functional and supportive environment
  • The behaviour support planning tool

This course links to QCF Unit HSC3065, Implement the Positive Behavioural Support Model.  You may use your learning from attending this course towards the Level 5 Leadership for Care Services Diploma or the Level 3 Health and Social Care Diploma
