Target Audience

This course is ideal for you if you are new to working within the Health and Social Care sector.  It is also relevent for experienced staff who would like to refresh their knowledge and skills

Aims

This course aims to develop your understanding of mental health conditions, dementia and learning disabilities and how these conditions influence care needs.  You will learn how a positive attitude towards these conditions can improve the care and support you offer.  You will explore  why the early detection of these conditions is important; the types of adjustments that may be needed to care for an  individual and how to recognise and report unmet needs.  You will consider the legislative framework protecting individuals with these conditions; the meaning of capacity and when and how assessment of capacity may be needed.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course you will know the:-

  • Needs and experiences of individuals with mental health conditions, dementia or learning disabilities
  • Importance of promoting positive health and wellbeing for individuals with mental health conditions, dementia or learning disabilities
  • Adjustments that may be necessary in care delivery relating to an individual who may have a mental health condition, dementia or learning disability
  • Importance of early detection of mental health conditions, dementia or learning disability
  • Legal frameworks, policy and guidelines relating to mental health conditions, dementia or learning disability
  • meaning of mental capacity in relation to how care is provided
