Target Audience

This course is ideal for you if you are new to working within the Health and Social Care sector.  It is also relevent for experienced staff who would like to refresh their knowledge and skills.

Aims

This course aims to introduce you to the principles of food safety, hydration and nutrition. This will include the signs of hydration and malnourishment. You will explore how to support individuals to have access to fluids and food and nutrition safely and in accordance with their plan of care.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course you will know:-
  • The principles of food safety
  • The principles of hydration and nutrition
  • How to support individuals to have access to fluids in accordance with their plan of care
  • How to support individuals to have acces to food and nutrition in accordance with their plan of care

  • Food safety in the preparation and handling of food
  • The importance of good nutrition and hydration
  • Signs and symptoms of poor nutrition and hydration
  • How to promote adequate nutrition and hydration
  • Reporting concerns

Progression

Learners who complete the Care Certificate may wish to progress to the QCF Health and Social Care Diploma.
